How to create a paper star decoration

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE - HOW TO CREATE PAPER STAR DECORATIONS

Give this DIY Christmas Star a go and make beautiful paper stars to decorate your home. Perfect for Christmas time or create a fun selection for your next occasion.

Craft products used

  • Patterned Paper
  • Hi Tack Glue
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Ribbon or Twine

Step One

Decide on the size star you wish to make. Then choose your patterned paper, your paper needs to be square so 12x12, 8x8 or 6x6 will all work perfectly for this project. You will need 2 sheets of the same design.

Step Two

Fold your paper diagonally corner to corner and crease using a bone folder. Open the paper out and repeat this in the opposite direction.

Step Three

Open your paper out and fold in half to create a centre crease. Repeat the process on the opposite side. You should now have four creases in your paper.

Step Four

On the centre folds cut down about a third of the way towards the middle point, do this on all four sides.

Step Five

Fold your cut lines in towards the diagonal crease and burnish using your bone folder. Repeat this process all the way round your paper.

Step Six

Pop some Hi tack glue onto one of the diagonal folds, then gently bring the other fold over and stick together. Repeat this on all four sides.

Step Seven

You will now have one side of your 3 dimensional star. On your second piece of paper do exactly the same as you did with the first.

Step Eight

Using a hot glue gun around the middle of your star, gently press your two stars together.

Step Nine

Punch a hole in the top and use ribbon, twine or string to hang your star. You could also use glitter, gems or pearls to add some extra sparkle.
