Step-by-Step guide - How to create a handmade cracker

Thinking about creating handmade Christmas decorations this year? This tutorial shows you a fun, quick, easy, cost-effective way to make your own crackers.

Craft Products Used

  • Cutterpillar Pro
  • Cutterpillar Crease
  • American Crafts Cardstock
  • Patterned Papers
  • Ribbon
  • Paper Flowers
  • Glue
  • Double Sided Tape

Step One

Take a piece of 12 x 12 cardstock and using a paper trimmer cut down to 6.5” x 10”.

Step Two

Using the Cutterpillar crease or a score board, position the 10” (long side) on the scoreboard and score down at 1”, 2” 8” and 9”.

Rotate your card so the 6.5” (short side) is now in position and score down at 1”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 5” and 6”.

Step Three

Burnish all your score lines with a bone folding tool.

Step Four

On the 6.5 “(short side) between the 1” and 2” score lines, fold and cut a triangle so when opened it creates a diamond shape. Repeat this step along each fold to make six diamonds. Next run a strip of double-sided tape along the 0.5” tab and stick your cracker together.

Step Five

Cut 6 strips of coordinating patterned papers at 5.75” x 0.75” using a paper trimmer. Stick these strips on each side of the cracker.

Step Six

Cut two lengths of ribbon in matching colours. Tie one end to close the cracker, Pop your chosen treat, quote, joke etc. inside the other end and then tie and bow ribbon to close. Choose Papers flowers, gems, embellishments to decorate your crackers.
