Step-by-step Guide - Create an extra large celebration card for any occasion.
Some occasions require something extra special! HobbyMaker celebrated their half birthday in September and created a large celebration card to mark the occasion. This card can be altered to suit any special occasion but here is the basic craft recipe we used to make HobbyMaker's Birthday card.
Supplies used
- 1 x Sheet of Card 24” x 12”
- 5-6 Sheets of 12” X 12” patterned and plain papers
- Scoreboard
- Scissors
- Double sided tape
- Glue
- Twine
Step One
Score your 12” x 24” at 12” to create a large 12” x 12” card blank. Next score your card front from top left to bottom right and cut along the score line to create a diagonal slope front
Step Two
Trim down 2 of your plain pieces of coordinating papers to 11.5” x 11.5” & 11”x 11”, then matt and layer them on the inside of your card.
Step Three
Trim your coordinating 3 papers for the front of your card leaving a ½” border between each layer.
Optional extra we used a silver marker pen just to go round the outer edge of my first layer to give a little sparkle and dimension
Step Four
Choose a selection of celebration cutting dies. We have used 4 large balloons and 9 bunting triangles. You can cut these out of your coordinating paper & cardstock.
Step Five
Cut a length of twine or thin ribbon approx 12” to allow a curve in your bunting. Using a fine tip glue draw a curved line across the top of the inside card and place your twine along it and gently press down. Allow to dry slightly, then using foam pads add the bunting triangles along the twine alternating the pattern as you go.
Step Six
Place your balloons on and once you are happy with the position, first glue down the twine so that the end will be hidden under the balloon. Next stick down the balloons using foam pads to raise them up and overlap them slightly so they are bunched together.
Optional extra use your Sakura white gelly pen to add highlights to your balloon.
Step Seven
Using either a border punch or border die create a 12” x 2” edge then stick along the diagonal slope.
Step Eight
Create a large centre focal point, we created a ‘Happy Birthday’ topper using a large die cut font but you could use a stamp, die cuts, or photographs to make your own special centrepiece.
Step Nine
We die cut some stars using off cuts of paper and card. Glue and stick these to decorate all over your card inside and out. For added extra sparkle you could also add gems and pearls.
Happy Crafting!
