Technique A

Step One

To create a background, cut a piece of white cardstock down to size dependent on the shape of card you wish to make. You will need to use a mat that can be wiped clean as the air markers do spread slightly when spraying. Next, using masking tape to create a thin border, stick your card down to your mat.

Step Two

Select the colour pen you wish to use and insert into the airbrush unit.

Step Three

Hold the airbrush approx. 10-15 cm away from your cardstock and press the button to start spraying. Move the airbrush across the card in a gentle motion. To add a more intense colour hover over the area and keep moving back and forth until you have the desired colour (you can also move the airbrush closer to the card for a deeper colour effect).

Step Four

Once the ink is dry remove the masking tape to reveal a crisp white border, you now have a simple background to use as a base for your card.

Technique B

Step One

Follow the basic start instructions from Technique A to stick cardstock to mat.

Step Two

We are going to create a rainbow background but you could always use this technique to create a striped effect using 2 colours instead of 7. Starting with the red airbrush marker, sweep the airbrush across the top left corner of your card in a diagonal line approx. 1”, next swap colour of air markers to orange and repeat the process (let the orange spray slightly into the red to gently blend colours together). Continue switching colours and repeating the process until you have created a rainbow across the page. Should you wish to deepen the colour or blend colours together more, load the marker and go over the area again.

You now have a rainbow background to use as either the base or focal point of your card.

Technique C

Step One

Follow the basic start instructions from Technique A to stick cardstock to mat.

Step Two

We are going to create our own mask to make a sky. Take a strip of masking tape and place onto your cutting mat, using a pencil draw several clouds in various sizes onto the masking tape and then cut them out. Stick clouds into the desired position on the card.

Step Three

Select 3 blue airbrush markers (Light, Medium & Dark Blue) starting with the lightest blue working from the bottom of the card upwards spray colour gently to cover the card. Next load the medium blue and from a 1/3 of the way up the card start spraying upwards over the card, finally load the dark blue from 2/3 of the way up the card spray upwards. This should give your sky a soft ombre effect.

Step Four

Once the ink is dry remove the masking tape to reveal fluffy white clouds. You can now use this as a background for your card.

Technique D

Step One

To create embellishments use the stencil included with your airbrush starter kit or a stencil from your craft stash. Tape your card down to your mat to stop it moving using masking tape.

Step Two

Pop the stencil down onto your card and use some masking tape to cover the area surrounding it and stick down. Hold the airbrush closer to the cardstock so the colour doesn’t spread past the stencil.

Step Three

Turn the airbrush unit on and cover the area of the stencil. Should you wish to add a deeper colour to stencil or another to give a two tone effect do this before removing the masking tape.

Step Four

Once the ink is dry, remove all masking tape and stencil to reveal your image. Cut around the image leaving a white border or without depending on your preference. I tend to opt for a thin white border for more interest.

Your embellishments are now ready for you to use on your card. enter image description here
