Step-by-Step Guide - How to create a Halloween Card

Step One

Select your papers of choice. I have used a selection from the Crafter's Companion Halloween Collection Kit. (I always find it helps me to pick everything I think I want to use before starting). Score and fold a 6"x6" card using any suitable paper trimmer, pop the outer edges into the corner rounder punch - this gives your project a softer edge.

Step Two

Trim your matching paper down to size ready for matting and layering. I selected 3 papers and cut them to 5 1/2 x 5 1/2", 5 1/4 x 5 1/4" and 5 x 5".

Step Three

To create a central focal point on your card, use nesting dies to add an image onto card. I have used a scalloped and plain oval but you can use any shape you like and should you not want to die cut you can always cut a plain square on your paper trimmer.

I have ran my dies through my Gemporia Cutting Machine along with some of the Halloween Collection dies to use for embellishing later on. I also took a strip of co-ordinating cardstock, popped into the web embossing folder and ran that through the machine too.

Step Four

Once you have die cut all your shapes, leave the metal die around the plain oval, pop a little bit of masking tape to the edges and secure to your mat.

Using your ink pad and brushes, gently ink around the edge of the oval in a smooth circular motion (I have used Spectrum Harmony - Twilight Grey and Distress Ink Shaded Lilac). Once you are happy with the ink effect, peel off the masking tape and die to reveal a crisp white border.

Step Five

Pick your stamp for the main image. Using Versafine ink, stamp your image onto white cardstock then colour using your choice of medium. I have use Spectrum Tri-Blend, Pro-markers and blendable alcohol markers.

Cut around your stamped image, you can leave a white edge if you wish but for this project I have chosen to cut right to the edge of the image.

Step Six

Using double sided tape add your papers to your card, matting and layering each one. Cut a dovetail onto the embossed strip of card and stick down, then add your scalloped oval and raise your plain oval with foam pads for adding dimension.

Step Seven

Use a shape forming tool to curl the edges of your bunny by placing it face down into your palm and rubbing the tool all over the back, this will make the bunny pop! Use 3D glue on the bunny to secure it to the oval.

Step Eight

Place all of the die cut shapes from earlier onto your mat in front of you, this will allow you to see everything you have to decorate your project. I have also decided to add some gems for abit of extra sparkle.

Top Tip

Always place your embellishments onto your card before gluing down, this will allow you to move things around and decide where you would like everything before sticking it all in place.
